Laboratory
Our technicians perform
many laboratory tests in-house, including our pre-op
screens prior to administering anesthesia. Having an
in-house laboratory means a quicker diagnosis for your
pet! We also send specimens to many outside diagnostic
labs around the country. If your pet is coming in for
lab tests, please check with our office the prior day
for specific instructions regarding food, water, and
medication administration, as these factors may
influence the outcome of certain tests.
Surgery
Laser surgery is now
available, and we are proud to provide the many
advantages of laser technology to our patients. Now your
pet can benefit from the same properties of a laser that
human patients have experienced for over 20 years: less
pain, swelling, and discomfort after surgery, and the
ability to resume normal activities sooner. The laser
seals nerve endings, so patients are much more
comfortable after surgery. Not only does the laser kill
any bacteria in its path, it also seals the lymph
vessels, so there is much less swelling
post-operatively.
With the exception of
emergencies, surgery is scheduled and performed by
appointment. Our surgical suite is a single use,
dedicated room where we perform aseptic surgical
procedures. All the instrument packs are sterilized and
aseptic procedures are strictly followed. Our patients
are placed on water circulating heating pads and their
respiration, heart rate, and blood oxygenation levels
are continuously monitored during each procedure. We
utilize isofluorane gas anesthesia to further assure the
safety of our patients. You are welcome to call for a
progress report after 1:00 PM, and you will be given
post-op instructions upon discharge of your pet. Most
surgical patients go home the same afternoon as the
surgery! |

Anesthesia
Patients
requiring anesthesia for surgical, dental, or other
procedures should be admitted to the hospital before
8:30 AM the day of the procedure. All solid food should
be withheld after 8:00 PM the prior evening. Be sure to
let us know if your pet has eaten after this time. It is
generally permissible and recommended to provide water
continuously while at home. Ask for specific
instructions if your pet has special needs. We use a
variety of injectable anesthetic and sedative agents,
selected specifically for the patient and procedure to
be performed. Isofluorane gas is our choice for general
anesthesia because of its high safety record.
Dentistry
Dental procedures are
performed under general anesthesia. The same dental
equipment, ultrasonic scaler and polisher, that would be
used on your teeth is the same as we use on your pet’s
teeth! For safety, monitors continuously measure the
respiration, heart rate, and blood oxygenation of our
anesthetized patients.
